The Type UC II, launched in 1916-1917, represents the second series of minelaying submarines deployed by the Imperial German Navy during
the Great War. They could transport up to eighteen mines housed in six vertically inclined compartments, placed forward in centerline position.
Flanking these compartments there were two external torpedo tubes which protruded laterally. These submarines were double-hulled and had improved
operational range and seakeeping if compared with the preceding series. If judged solely by the amount of enemy vessels destroyed, perhaps over
1800, the Type UC II would be the most successful class of submarines in History.
